Barbara Shaffer Obituary

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Barbara passed away on March 8, 2018. The family cannot begin to express our deep sorrow at her passing.
She was born on July 17, 1954 in Springfield, Massachusetts and had 11 siblings. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Wilfred Peterson and Ruth Teresa Hite (Lopez), and her brother Ricky Peterson. Barbara called the town of Taft home for over 30 years with her beloved husband Steve.
Barbara was an enthusiastic crafter and quilter, as well as very active with the Girl Scouts. She was a devout Christian and had many friends, especially among her church family at the New Hope Temple. She always said tomorrow is not a given so take the time today to let the people you care know about it. She never ended a phone conversation without expressing her love for you. She loved her family very much, and we will miss her terribly.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 25 years, Steve Shaffer; her children, Wendy and John Coffman, Tracy Bergeron, Timothy and Vanessa Bergeron, Heidi and Christian Gray, and Brooke Theresa Rose Shaffer; her 12 grandchildren, Gabe, Ben, Max, Mandi, Kerry and Michelle, Dalton, Hailey, Brayden, Madison, Samantha, and Andrew; her 6 great grandchildren, Renee, Aimee, Annalee, Kaleb, River, and Ayden; her siblings Danny Peterson, Lori Gatlin, Edward Cave, and Dolores Garcia, and her former spouse Bruce Bergeron. Barbara will also be forever remembered by her numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will take place on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 12 p.m. at the New Hope Temple at 308 Harrison Street in Taft, California. She will be privately cremated. The family is grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, but declines flowers and donations.
