John Ray Lippert Sr.

1918 - 2019

John Ray Lippert Sr was born July 14, 1918, in Fellows, CA, and went home to be with the Lord on April 15, 2019 at his home in Taft, CA, just 3 months shy of his 101 st birthday. John was born on a lease near Fellows, CA to Peter and Bessie Lippert and attended elementary school in Fellows, graduated from Taft Union High School in 1937, and attended Taft College where he ran track. He married Charlotte Patricia Varley of Maricopa, CA on May 4, 1947.
John served in the US Navy during WWII on a sub chaser in the Asiatic Pacific as a machinist mate.
After the service, he began working in the oil industry, retiring from ARCO.
John enjoyed traveling in his RV, woodworking, watching Angels baseball, and playing golf,
where he played in the annual Moron Golf Tournament each year well into his nineties.
John dearly loved having his family around him, especially the grandchildren and great
grandchildren, who dearly loved him in return.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, his son John Jr. and twin great
grandsons. He is survived by his children and their spouses; Kathleen/Ed Brannan of Coarsegold, CA, Randy/Oleta Lippert of Idaho Falls ID, Robert/Pam Lippert of Lubbock TX, and Pamela/Michael McCormick of Taft, CA; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Optimal Hospice for their invaluable service and kindness.
A graveside service will be held in the West Side District Cemetery, Taft, CA on Monday, April 22, 2019 at 11:00 am. A luncheon will be served following the service at Taft First Baptist Church, 220 North Street. No visitation hours are scheduled, and the arrangements are under the direction of Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.
