Bill Zumbro Obituary

Bill was born on a farm in Altus, Oklahoma, the eleventh and youngest child of James and Mattie Zumbro. He moved to the San Francisco Bay area with his parents in his early teens. At 17 years old, he joined the Merchant Marines and sailed around the world. In 1948 he came to Taft to be with his parents and met his wife-to-be, Edna Mae Smith, at Abram's Drive-in where she worked as a carhop. Bill was drafted into the Army in 1951 and served 13 months in Korea. Before shipping out to Korea he and Edna were married. Once his military service was completed they settled in Taft. Bill retired from Standard Oil Company after more than 30 years of service. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. One of his greatest joys was attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. Bill is survived by Edna, his wife of 65 years; sons, Mick and Rick; daughter, Suzanne, their spouses; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild who will all miss him greatly. Funeral services will be private.
