Billy Rose Gunter, born April 30, 1937 in Ringold Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2023 in Caldwell, Idaho. He was 86 years old.
Billy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather (GG), uncle, and friend. He was a devoted Christian and faithful servant of the Lord.
Billy moved to the Taft area at an early age. He attended Elk Hills School, or as he called it “Tupman Tech.” He completed his education in Taft, and began his career in the Oil Patch. He retired from MH Whittier Oil Co. in 1986.
After retirement, Billy continued to serve his family, church, and community. He spent many years volunteering at church events and the Taft NEEDs center, often with several of his grandchildren in town.
Billy could be found taking his wife to the beach or casino on demand, practicing his photography, and penny hunting around town. You could count on him to have a comment related to the current political climate, usually followed up by his famous chuckle.
Billy was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jeanette Elaine Gunter and one of his “grandest girls,” his granddaughter, Kate Elise Gunter.
He is survived by his siblings Sheryl (Robert) Martinez and Jimmy Fox. His children Wyllie (Janet) Gunter, Mark (Becky) Gunter, and Kial (Raeleen) Gunter. Billy has 11 Grandchildren, 14 Great-Grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends who loved and respected him.
Services will be held Saturday December 2, 2023 at 10:00 am. Erickson & Brown Funeral Home 501 Lucard Street, Taft CA.
Billy will be remembered for his kind heart, strong work ethic, and his unwavering faith in the Lord. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
