A graveside funeral service will be held in the West Side District Cemetery, Taft, CA on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. for Bobby Wayne Johnson, 72, of Wesley Chapel, FL. Rev. Tom White, pastor of Cuyama Assembly of God, will officiate. Bobby passed away on January 18, 2016 in Wesley Chapel, FL after a long illness. Bobby was born in Bakersfield, CA on December 16, 1943 to James and Bonnie (Ellis) Johnson. He was raised in Shafter, CA, attended local schools and graduated from Shafter High School in 1961. Bobby moved to Taft, CA in 1968 where he worked for Shell Oil Company. He married Etta White on February 14, 1986. He had lived in Wesley Chapel for the last 13 years. Bobby was an avid sports fan, especially of football and baseball. He could rattle off team and player statistics and during the seasons he'd known when and what teams were playing every week. Bobby was a great poker player and enjoyed playing at card rooms everywhere he lived or traveled. He was very kind and considerate, had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren about sports. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bonnie Johnson and granddaughter, Dezarae Johnson; Bobby is survived by his wife of 29 years, Etta Johnson of Wesley Chapel, FL; a brother and sister-in-law, Doyle and Wilda Johnson of Vacaville, CA; sons and their wives, Bobby and Ronnet Johnson of Crosby, MN, Ted and Cindy Johnson of Sacramento, CA, Darrell and Vicki Johnson of El Cajon, CA; daughters and their husbands, Christi and Donny Johnson of Wasco, CA, Dawn and Brian Carroll of San Jose, CA; grandchildren, Garret Johnson, Shania Johnson, Charlie Johnson, Holden Johnson, Sean Carroll, Joseph "JoJo" Johnson and Jessica Carroll. A gathering for family and friends to share memories of Bobby and to celebrate his life will be held after the service at the New Life Baptist Chapel, 27553 Taft Highway (Hwy. 119) in Valley Acres. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association in Bobby's name. There are no visitation hours scheduled and the arrangements are under the direction of the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.
