Duwain Edward Rhoten went home to join his Heavenly Father on September 22, 2016. Duwain was born in Taft, CA on October 4, 1926 to Dixie and Violet Rhoten. He spent his childhood years primarily in Taft, CA with brief stints of residency in Texas, Missouri and Atascadero, CA. In 1944 Duwain left Taft to serve his country in the United States Navy where he fought bravely in the Second World War on submarines in the Pacific Theatre. After his service he returned to Taft where he married his wife of fifty-three years, Jeannine Rhoten; worked in the petroleum industry and raised his family. Upon retirement he moved to Nipomo, CA. After his wife departed he remarried and relocated back to the Taft area where he spent the remainder of his years. Duwain was a committed Christian and would want to be most remembered as a Servant of Christ, a Disciple of the Faith and a Champion of the Gospel. Duwain was preceded in death by parents, Dixie Rhoten, Sina Wills-Rhoten and Violet Lilson-Rhoten; wives, Jeannine Rhoten and Mary Rhoten; daughter, Cynthia Rhoten; son, Monty Rhoten and grandson, Mathew Rhoten. He is survived by his brother, Lonnie Rhoten; children, Christopher Rhoten, Michael Rhoten, Rebecca Rhoten and Aaron Rhoten; grandchildren, Daniel Rhoten, Kelly Rhoten, Nevin Rhoten, Luke Rhoten, Elijah Rhoten, Adam Rhoten, Jesse Springstead, Meagan Springstead, Michael Springstead, Kendall Rhoten and Carson Rhoten; great grandchildren, Carter Rhoten, Cade Rhoten, Isaiah Rhoten, Isaac Rhoten, Zoe Whipple, Ashley Richardson, Kendall Rhoten, Shylynn Hernandez, Ava Rhoten and Lincoln Rhoten. Flowers would be appreciated; however, our father would be honored, as your heart leads, for you to make a donation of your time, your talent and/or your treasure to the advancement of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For those that minister through the hospitality of food preparation Duwain's family wants to let you know they thank you and that the fellowship facility at Community Christian Fellowship Church located at 700 North St in Taft, CA will be open at 10:30 AM Friday, September 30, 2016 to receive your blessing. A graveside funeral service will be held in the West Side District Cemetery, 440 E. Cedar Street, Taft, CA on Friday, September 30, 2016, at 11:00 AM. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the Erickson & Brown Funeral, 501 Lucard Street, Taft, CA on Thursday, September 29, 2016, from 3:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
