Evelyne Louise (Hogan) Dykes, 92, formerly of Taft, passed away peacefully July 23, 2016 in El Dorado Hills, California. Funeral Services will be held at Erickson & Brown Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at noon, followed by burial at the West Side District Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Evelyne was born in Visalia, California on November 1, 1923 to Audrey and Uda D. Hogan. She had two older brothers, Howard and Harold Hogan and a sister Helen who died in infancy. The family moved to Taft, California when she was a small child where she attended local schools, graduating from Taft Union High School in 1942. She was active in Student Council, Drum and Bugle Corps and loved to dance. She attended Nursing School at St. Vincent's Hospital in Los Angeles before marrying Ben Dykes on September 27, 1943. The couple settled in Taft to raise their family. While living in Taft, she was an active member of the United Methodist Church and Soroptimist Club. She loved entertaining friends and family and did so often with dinners, pool parties and celebrations of all kinds. She worked alongside her husband in Thailand providing dental care to Cambodian refugees in 1981 - 82. She and Dr. Dykes sponsored the Lim family to come to the United States in 1984 and they became their second family. She received the Taft Soroptimist Woman of the Distinction Award in 1987. After retiring to Jackson, California, she volunteered at the Amador Hospital earning her five year pin, and enjoyed raising her mini dachshund, Hildie. Evelyne is survived by her four daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Zak and her husband Ray Zak, Nancy McEnroe-O'Brien and her husband Charles Dreiling, Kathy Bolding and her husband William Bolding and Kim Kaehler and her husband Robert Kaehler, as well as thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to El Dorado Hills Senior Care Village, and especially Juliette Hidalgo who provided such wonderful care and would sing so beautifully with her!
