Memorial services will be held in Westside Believers Fellowship on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. for longtime Kern County resident, Harrison Sumner, 79. Pastor Ron Griffith will officiate at the service. Mr. Sumner was born in Keota, Oklahoma on June 3, 1936. Harrison Sumner was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He went to walk with God on May 25, 2016. Harrison was a very hard working man. Right out of high school he worked for many years for Victory Oil Company as a mechanic, electrician, generator and heavy equipment operator before retiring in 1984. After retirement, Harry then went to work for his brother, Ken Sumner, who owned Cherokee Oilfield Service. After working with Ken for many years, Harry once again retired in 1990. Harrison lived a very active life and enjoyed the simple things of life. He loved working in his yard and spending lots of time in his garage. His favorite indoor activity was playing dominos and doing crossword puzzles. His smile, his quirky sense of humor and his ability to create lyrics of songs on the fly are going to be missed by all who knew him. Harrison is survived by his wife, Wilma Sumner of Taft; his children and their spouses, Shawn Holmes of Taft, Valli and Jeff Strom of Bay Center, Washington, Heather and Scott Niblett, Ron and Regina Griffith all of Taft, Charlotte and Rusty Risi and Dianna Rodriguez and Vincent; his nine grandchildren and his 15 great grandchildren. Until we see you again Harry, we say we love you and we will miss you.
