Howard Hunter Obituary

We are sad to announce the passing of former Taft resident, Howard Michael Hunter, 79. Howard was born on February 1st, 1943 in Porterville, CA, and passed away on June 21, 2022, in Riverside, CA. At two weeks old he, unfortunately, had an ear infection that resulted in brain damage. From an early age, Michael was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and had to deal with its aftermath like having to use braces to roll anywhere and on and off seizures until the age of 16. While dealing with these troubles Michael never gave up and continued to try to live a normal life like anyone else with the help of others like caring for his mother. In 1952 his family moved to Taft and he, later on, attended the Westside Training Center, now known as the ARC in town.  Michael was unique in his own ways and held special interests like being well versed in information regarding all the former US presidents, always remembering the birthdays of any friend or relative of his, and was always a team player. In 1991 he and his mother moved to Oregon to be closer to family. Michael is in heaven with his parents Edith Bessie and Howard Tobias Hunter. He is survived by his brother James Irving Hunter of Bakersfield and sisters Maryls Haines of Riverside, Wanda Adams of Bakersfield, and a host of family and friends. While he will be strongly missed, we know he is walking all over Heaven or using his new wings.
