John Hayes Wagner

A funeral service will be held in Valley Baptist Church in Bakersfield, on Monday, December 14, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. for longtime Taft resident, John Wagner, 75. Pastor Phil Neighbors will officiate and burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. in the West Side District Cemetery. Mr. Wagner was born in Fellows on April 21, 1940 and passed away in Bakersfield on December 8, 2015. He was raised in Fellows and attended Midway School, Taft Union High School and Taft College. He was an active member of Valley Baptist Church and played the trombone in the church orchestra. He was also an ordained deacon and was involved in prison ministry. He loved riding motorcycles and was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bessie Wagner; his brother, Robert C. Wagner; and his brother-in-law, Barney Teel. Mr. Wagner is survived by his wife of 55 years, Anna Wagner; his children and their spouses, Clint and Gloria Wagner, Pam Wagner-Carter, Johnny and Kathi Wagner and Phyllis and Terry Maddox-Bowman; his sisters, Betty Teel and Charlotte Leaf and her husband, Gaylan; his brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Donna Wagner; his sister-in-law, Corene Wagner; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Viewing will be on Sunday, December 13, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.
