Graveside funeral services will be held in the West Side District Cemetery on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. for former longtime Taft resident, Matthew H. Doyle, 98. Rev. Tom White will officiate. Mr. Doyle was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 31 , 1917 and passed away in Ridgecrest on January 3, 2016. He moved to the Taft area when he was nine years old. He proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps. Mr. Doyle had been employed by PG&E for over 42 years. He was a very active member of the American Legion. A legionnaire from 1946 to the present, he served in several offices, including Post Commander of the Taft Post #70 and later as District Commander of District Fifteen. He also volunteered at the Veterans Administration in Bakersfield for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, in January of 2013. Mr. Doyle is survived by his two daughters, Juanita Willis and her husband, Bill of Ridgecrest and Carol Doyle of Bakersfield; his grandchildren, Eliott Willis and Gwynn Hartkopf; and his great grandchildren, Heidi Hartkopf and Kayla Hartkopf. Friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday from 3:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. and again on Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.
