Peter Overdevest
1946 – 2023
Peter “Pete” Herman Overdevest was on October 14, 1946 to Parents Peter and Helen Overdevest. He passed away on January 23, 2023 in Bakersfield, California. In 1948, when Pete was just 2 years old, his family immigrated to the United States from their Native country of Holland.
Pete was a strong man, he was a hard worker as things didn’t always come easy, He was Loving, Caring, Very Stubborn but a great family man. He had a love for automobiles like no other. He retired late in life, but took full advantage of it, with camping, going to car shows and spending time with family and friends. His famous quote amongst family was “if ya ain’t Dutch you ain’t much” as he was very proud of his Dutch heritage. His favorite thing in the morning was taking his dog pinky on their morning car rides and drinking coffee at the dining table to think about the day. He was loved and liked by everyone and is one unique soul that can’t ever be replaced.
Pete is Preceded in Death by Son Petie Overdevest, Wife Cathy Overdevest and Wife Sheila Overdevest, and Daughter Michelle Collom. He is survived by his Son Sam & Kim Overdevest, Stepson Billy & Andrea Messenger, Son in law David Collom, Brother Clem & Linda Overdevest and His Sisters, Cornelia & Husband Larry Cardon, Bea Brulh, Joanna Miller, Audrey Nieman and Evelyn Dankoff & Husband John Dankoff. He had 10 Grandkids, 24 Great-Grandkids and 2 Great-Great-Grandkids.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 3 at 1:00 P.M. at the West Side District Cemetery 440 Bob Hampton Rd in Taft (Formerly E. Cedar St.). A gathering will follow after the service at the Petroleum Club located at 450 Petroleum Club Rd Taft, CA.
