It is with much sadness that the family of Rita Spencer announces her passing at her home in Taft on December 31, 2023 at the age of 84. Born and raised in Taft, Rita also raised her family here as well. She loved animals, and she owned her own business boarding dogs and cats for local folks for the better part of thirty years. When she was not taking care of them, she was taking care of everyone else. She was also plainspoken, tough minded, and never backed down from defending those under her care. Her last wishes were just to know that her family would be safe and well when she was gone. Her faith in Christ was also unwavering, and she never missed an opportunity to remind those around her of His promises. Her monumental presence in the lives of those who loved her and knew her will be terribly missed. She leaves behind two daughters, Lee Etta Spencer and Bobbie Jean Bertholf, her grandchildren Joshua, Krista, Sierra, Luke, Adam, and Cherokee, as well as her great-grandchildren Dean, Thorin, Spencer, Trinity, Emma, and Elias, and her brother Ralph Patin.
