Obituary

Tab J. Haney was born April 28, 1957 in Taft, California as the eldest of three boys to Les & Beverly Haney. He lived a life dedicated to his family and friends, spending much of his work and time volunteering in the local community.

Tab was married to Janet Davis from 1976 to 2005. During their marriage together they raised four wonderful children - Bret, Shawn, Tori & Traci. In 2009, Tab married Edie Reel, gaining two bonus children - Carrie & Doug, both of whom he loved as his own. His children were his pride and joy, and this was even more the case when he became the proud grandpa of 12 amazing grandchildren. Family meant everything to Tab, he was always present, loving and supportive to everyone.

Tab graduated from North High School in 1975 and spent his entire career with Chevron Exploration & Production in Kern County. His intelligence and ingenuity made him a valuable member of Chevron's team and he was proud to dedicate his career to a company which benefits so many.

Tab also generously served his community through many volunteer service projects. He was an integral part of the Stockdale High School family, helping to build the current stadium and serving the high school band for many years. He was also consistently dedicated to donating platelets through the Houchin Blood Bank and was their second highest platelet donor. He was a member of the 1200 Platelet Club, reaching a total of 1,289 platelet donations. Anyone wishing to donate platelets in Tab's name at Houchin may do so and they will honor Tab by making him part of the 1300 Platelet Club.

Tab and Edie's contributions to the Central California Children's Railroad at CALM are lasting and meaningful. He will be missed tremendously by his brothers and sisters on the train crew and his legacy will always remain a part of the CALM family. Turbo-charged describes Tab to a T and resulted in his nickname of "Turbo" among his second family at CALM.

In retirement and his final years, Tab loved the life that he and his family had built together. Even during the most difficult times, Tab and Edie continued to support and love each other and he knew that nothing else mattered except his family and their continued success.

Left to celebrate and mourn Tab's incredible life are his wife Edie, children Bret (Amberly) Haney, Shawn (Chrissony) Haney, Tori (Josh) Freeborn, Traci (Nick) Plumb, Carrie Wright, Doug (Emily) Reel, grandchildren Zackary, Garrett, Kaymin, Scott, Kaitlyn, Juliette, Ryann, Emily, Hudson, Emilia, Brynlee, Jensen, younger brothers Ric (Amy) Haney, and Les (Chelle) Haney. There are also many nieces, nephews, other close family members and friends whom he considered family.

Tab passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 7th, 2023 and will be greatly missed by all. Services for Tab will be held Friday August 18th, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel at Erickson and Brown Funeral Home in Taft. Interment will immediately follow at Westside Cemetery in Taft. A Celebration of Life will also be held on Friday August 18th 2023 at 4:00 PM at Riverlakes Community Center in Bakersfield.
