Virginia Schuyler Obituary

There are no services scheduled for Mrs. Schuyler who will be laid to rest with her son privately in the West Side Side District Cemetery. Virginia was born on January 2, 1920 in Fullerton, CA and at the age of 95 passed away on December 5, 2015 at her home in Taft surrounded by her family. Virginia attended school in Carpenteria, CA and accounting college in Santa Barbara, CA. She met her husband, Dale, while working in the shipyards in Long Beach and married on October 1, 1938. Virginia worked at two nursery schools, as a soda jerk and pharmacy technician at Mills Drug Store and at Safeway for 25 years. She raised her family in Carpenteria, CA. Upon retiring, she made a home in Taft for the last 40 years. She then became "The Traveling Granny" as a traveling nanny from Hawaii to Santa Barbara. "Traveling Granny" lived up to her name by many fishing trips to Mexico, visiting Spain and making many trips across the States. She enjoyed rebuilding her Karman Ghia and her VW bug (all by herself), reading, all sports and loved taking her grandchildren and great-grandchildren on many trips and playing with her great-great-grandchildren. She also loved her many little dogs and kitties and playing bingo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Schuyler and her sons, David Schuyler and Commander Philip Schuyler. Mrs. Schuyler's survivors are her children and their spouses, Betsy and Larry Rowland and Lowell and Carolyn Schuyler; grandchildren, Kathleen and Mark Zineld, Andrew Schuyler, Guyvana Kennedy, Scott and Laurie Rowland, Lori and Jay Barrett, Philip and Tara Rowland, Bradley and Rhonda Pelky, Thomas and Linda Pelky, Doug and Kathy Rowland, Kimberly and Steve Hull and Heather Schuyler. Virginia is also survived by her 22 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
