Virginia Evangeline Widen, born May 8, 1924 passed away quietly at home on April 27, 2024. Virginia was born and raised in Taft, showing an early propensity for learning and at age seven learned the Seventh-day Adventist faith from her grandparents. Although opposed in this religion by her mother, she persisted in secret prayer until at age 16 she openly avowed her faith in the Seventh-day Sabbath.
After college and in unsuccessful marriage, she visited other countries as a journalist, especially Israel and England. Her favorite pastime was to talk of Jesus Christ as the sin-pardoning Savior and would often ask people the question,”Do you believe that Jesus has power to take sins and weaknesses out of your nature?”
She believed that one’s faith in Christ enabled the person to keep all ten of His Commandments (see Exodus 20:3-21. She looked forward to seeing her Savior in the resurrection morning. She is predeceased by her brothers Robert and Leonard and is survived by three nephews, Randy, Barry and Jeff. She was celebrated in a private family service on May 23, 2024.
