Virva Elissa Hedlund, age 65, passed away on Monday March 1, 2021.
Virva was born in Kouvola Finland on March 11, 1955 and immigrated to the United States in 1977. Virva had lived in Taft since 1994 and recently retired from a 25-year career working for the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
Virva touched many lives with her generosity and passion for life. Close friends and family of Virva can testify to her sense of humor and empathy for others. Professionally, Virva was selfless when helping the needs of people. Personally, Virva’s greatest sense of pride and happiness was from being the mother to two accomplished sons.
Virva always praised the joys that education and traveling brought to her. She was a graduate of Fresno State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree Summa Cum Laude. Virva explored many cities of Europe on various travels with friends and family. These rewarding experiences gave her fulfilment and joy her entire life. The most important thing is the legacy Virva leaves. She is remembered as a loving mother and a generous person to her community.
She is survived by her sons Curtis and Scott (Jessy), grandchildren Luke and Jolie, brother Markku Niemi, sisters Rita Hyppännen, Arja Skrivan, Sointu Niemi, and Anja Rämä. Virva is preceded by her parents, Viljo and Lilli Niemi, her brother, Matti Niemi, sister, Pirjo Lakka.
The Hedlund family extends their gratitude to Hoffman Hospice for the care they provided to Virva in her final days.
